Physical and Visible Reminders That We Need Protection From Sin

Today's Reading
Numbers 15

As God continues to provide instructions on daily living and how to walk with the Lord, the following scripture strikes me:

37 The LORD said to Moses, 38 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel. 39 You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by going after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes. 40 Then you will remember to obey all my commands and will be consecrated to your God. 41 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD your God.' " (Numbers 15:37-41)

While the new covenant with Christ does not focus on "the doing" of things to walk with the Lord, I am nonetheless convicted by the wisdom of the scripture here in that we as humans, and men in particular, are in desperate need of physical/visible reminders of our sinful nature. If we are not reminded of our sinful nature - daily, and in many instances more often than this - we can of course more easily fall prey to sin. So what physical/visible reminders do we need? In the Old Testament, as indicated here, the Lord provides for these tassles, which in Hebrew are called Tzit Tzits. In the New Testament, Christ provides more freedom for us to pick what works for us - and this freedom is helpful of course as we can implement something more practical - say an accountability group, which recognizes that we need help to stay on course as we deal with and confront sin. I am greatly thankful for the accountability group I've just joined over the past few months.

My Prayer: Lord, you are awesome and you have done amazing things in my life since I have accepted you as my savior. Thanks you - thank you for this accountability group! I love you! I pray that you will forgive me for my neglect of you. Help me stay close to you, help me lean on you and help my faith and service to you grow.
