For thus says the LORD of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the LORD of hosts. The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the LORD of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the LORD of hosts.’”

 Haggai 2:6-9

I continue my study of Haggai - using the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary volume for this book.  For this morning, my focus is a commentary-assisted review of Haggai 2:6-9, which the commentary outlines as the second division for Haggai 2:1-9.  Here the commentary makes three key points regarding vv6-9:

  • God's plans cannot be stopped - He desired for the temple to be rebuilt - and nothing can stop this plan.  First God is sovereign over all things and all powerful - v6 describes this sovereignty and power.  He has the power to accomplish His will.
  • Second, God has the means to accomplish His will.  All the earth's wealth comes from Him and belongs to Him.  We are referred to Ezra 6:8 where scripture describes how the temple reconstruction will be funded.
  • Finally, the text points to a greater glory and this greater glory is a prophecy of Jesus.  See also Matthew 12:6 and John 2:19.  Jesus brings about a peace that surpasses understanding - Philippians 4:7.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, what an awesome God You are that came for me and for all of humanity - to save us from the sting of sin and death.  Thank You Jesus for my salvation.  Of course I am undeserving.  My sin is great and it continues...daily.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please continue to heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.   Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
