Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

1 Corinthians 12

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.  Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. v12-14

Paul discusses how God created the church for us to be dependent on each other through the distribution of spiritual gifts.  Earlier in this chapter he writes:

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.  All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. v4-11

Right now, with Lisa facing breast cancer...I see the body at work coming to support a "part" in need.  Praise God for the church and His perfect design of the church and how the church glorifies God by working as intended.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an incredible God and Your design, Your works....everything about You is perfect and I am amazed that You would come to earth to suffer and die...for me...knowing everything about me, including my sin.  Thank You Jesus!  I am not worth such love and affection.  I am selfish, full of worry, impatient, harsh with my thoughts, words and actions, etc.  Thank You that You love me anyway but please forgive me for my sin!  Help me turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Help me love others as You do.  Help me grow in my faith.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
