Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 10

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

I continue my study of Hebrews, moving to Hebrews 10:19-25 and I am assisted in my understanding by the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary Series for Hebrews.  The commentary outlines two divisions for this text:

I. Confidence in Christ (10:19-22): Here a key point raised by the commentary is how "Christian[s] hold on not by [their] own tenacity, but by God’s faithfulness. We will persevere until the end because God does not abandon his children." We are referred to John 6:37 and 10:28 as evidence of this claim.

II. Holding On to the Confession (10:23-25): The commentary shares how the text describes that Christian perseverance can only occur through the body - we must avoid isolation as each part of the body needs all of the other parts of the body. V25 includes an admonishment to not neglect this togetherness. We need each other in the church.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are good - and I have assurance of my salvation - thank You Jesus!  I am not deserving of how You are saving a place for me.  My sin is great and it continues...daily.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
