So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more[.] Revelation 18:21
After an extended pause, I've come back to my deep dive of Isaiah, based on the Precept Upon Precept study series. Today, I continue with Isaiah 14, where the focus is on Babylon and how not just here in Isaiah it represents sin and a fallen world, but also elsewhere in scripture where Babylon plays this role - including in the book of Revelation. My study indicates that Babylon appears almost 300 times in the Bible, so its worth looking at how it is represented in the Bible, as God clearly wants us to see the relevance of this ancient once powerful kingdom plays in our lives both now and in the future. The first mention of Babel (Babylon) occurred in Genesis 10:10 and 11:9 where Babel becomes one of the first cities in Nimrod's kingdom and then the tower of Babel is constructed (an abomination to God who then disperses the people and confuses their language). Babylon is also mentioned in 2 Kings 17 (during Isaiah's time). Finally, and most importantly, Babylon is Revelation 14, 16-18 where we see how God wants us to have a vivid picture of how the once ancient and sinful city still exists yet its people are dispersed throughout the world just as sin exists everywhere in world today. However, the great news is that in Revelation we see sin (and Babylon as its representative) defeated one last time and for eternity - we know the outcome! Jesus wins!

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, I gain great peace in knowing that You have already defeated sin and death - for me and anyone else that calls on Your name as Lord and Savior. Thank You Jesus! Yet I am not deserving of such an act of salvation. My sin is great and it is daily. Anger, worry, etc. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
