For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age[.] Titus 2:11-12
I continue my pause of my study of 1 Corinthians as I participate in a men's discipleship group (d-group) at my church. Today, my focus is Titus 2:11-12 - the memory verse for the 1st two weeks of our study. As a backdrop, because I have never done a study specifically of Titus, other than a reading as part of a plan to read through the entire Bible, I take a step back and read an overview of Titus, and reviewed additional background here and here. Titus is similar to Timothy in that Paul has taken both under his wing to grow them into church leaders. Paul has left Titus in Crete to establish Godly order and practices in the churches - see Titus 1:5. Titus 2:11-12 gives us two passive imperatives that result from the grace of God - while also reminding us how this same grace - most importantly - saves all people:
The grace of God has appeared...
...Bringing salvation for all people...
...Training us to:
- renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and...
- to live self-controlled, upright, and Godly lives in the present age.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God who loves me and who is full of grace and compassion, giving me power to accomplish Your will and to battle against sin - thank You Jesus! I am not deserving of such love. My sin is great and it continues....daily. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
