Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

John 21

Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. v25

In John 21, Jesus appears to the disciples after the resurrection, produces a miraculous catch of fish (v1-14), and Peter is reinstated (v15-19).  Peter's reinstatement is an incredible testimony of how Jesus loves and forgives and how freedom from the sting of sin and death enables Peter (and us) to serve as Peter goes on to build the early church.

As well, John remarks how there is much to Jesus' life that we don't know as it is not written down. This is a reminder to believers to share the Good News of Jesus Christ by sharing what is happening in our own lives.  I know for myself that God has transformed my heart and life and there are many miracles that Jesus has produced.

God - please help me share all of these details.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God and You have produced many miracles in my life - Thank You Jesus for blessing me.  I am not deserving.  I worry and I have other sin.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.

Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. He pleaded earnestly with him, My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live....Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.

Mark 5

Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. He pleaded earnestly with him, My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live....Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. v22-23, 33

Today's reading includes the story of two very desperate people who sought Jesus: Jairus, a synagogue leader whose daughter was very ill, and a woman who was dealing with severe health issues for 12 years.  Both sought Jesus out of this desperation, wanted to believe, and out of this desperation and desire to believe found healing with Jesus.

We all want such miracles with Jesus and of course, with Jesus anything is possible.  Yet, we must also understand there is a FAITH component and God hears all of our prayers, but an IMMEDIATE response is not always in the cards.  I prayed all the time for my mom to come to faith and God finally answered prayers - God is great indeed.  In my own life, I've seen how faith and a hunger and thirst for righteousness, produced heart and life change.

It starts with faith as small as a mustard seed.

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an amazing God who loves me and who has produced miracles in my life, heart and life change, etc.  Thank You Jesus!  I am not worth such love and blessings.  I worry.

Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

Matthew 8

Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” v4

Both MacArthur and John Gill offer insights into the meaning of verse 4 with specific reference to Leviticus 14 for how those with defiled skin are to be cleansed by the priests.  Such cleansing is of course not an end in itself for the leper but instead is a means to an end for God is to be glorified in the process and such miracles are offered to serve as testimony to others to believe that Jesus is the Messiah.  On a similar note, John Piper indicates that any giftings we have that work miracles in others lives is also to glorify God.  Piper says here:

Gifts of healings and workings of miracles are not for self-exaltation but for the benefit of others. They could easily become the basis of pride just like teaching or preaching or mercy or hospitality or prophecy or any of the gifts. But they are meant to be expressions of love. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:2, "Though I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." Gifts are not the main thing. Love is the main thing. Using gifts is one way to love.

Jesus, please help me remain humble with regard to the use of my gifts.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are amazing and You have worked many miracles in my lives and in the lives of others - I have see Your Hand do many miraculous things!  Thank You for the many blessings You pour out for me - I am undeserving.  I daily miss the mark.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love Him.
