2 Samuel 7
Wow...what a mind-blowing promise God makes to David! My wife pointed out that this is the Davidic Covenant. Of course, God is talking about Jesus as the One whose house and kingdom and throne will endure and be established forever.
Yet where I focus is not just God's promise to David but also God's promise to all of His children:
We should read the above verses from a heavenly perspective - because we have Jesus and as believers we have the gift of eternal life, freedom from the sting of sin and death, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Since we have all of this, we can overcome the world, including how the world may disturb and oppress us.
John Piper provides this excellent commentary on why the Davidic Covenant should mean something to "us gentiles".
My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an incredible God - worthy of my full attention, praise and worship. My cup overflows. Thank You for how You bless me. I am unworthy. I continue to gossip and sin in other ways. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind. Help me love others as You do. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
"The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’” v11-16

And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. v10-11.
