Phillipians Chp 1
As a change of pace I am doing a study today of Phi 1 and discussing with my accountability group. We had a great discussion. The first key takeaway from God is how I need to focus on Him and only Him as a product of my faith and deeds. Sometimes I find myself seeking glory or edification for myself so I need to be mindful of this.
15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Additionally, I am encouraged by Paul to push the envelope. Paul is of course in chains in this letter and he STILL sees God's glory in action while he suffers. I am encouraged by Paul to go outside of my comfort zone to glorify God.
21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.
My Prayer: Glory to you for how you are working the lives of men to bring them to Southbridge Fellowship and to our event next Weds. Forgive me for any efforts to glorify myself and protect me from Satan if I try and do this. Use me to your glory to reach men and to bring them closer to you. Thank you for how you have drawn me closer to you and help me go outside my comfort zone to do the same for other men.
