But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.

Luke 22

But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. v26

As Jesus gathers with His disciples for The Last Supper, we see a number of things, including Communion, Jesus' recognition of Judas as His betrayer among them (see also Matthew 26), the disciples quarreling over whom might be the greatest disciple among them, and Jesus' calling out of Peter's denial (three times) of Jesus that will come to pass by the next morning.

Both the disciples quarreling and Peter's defense of himself to Jesus shine a spotlight on our pride issues.  We all want recognition and significance (see also post here) yet we must remember that we exist to glorify God - hence why Jesus emphasizes our need to remain humble so that Jesus is glorified through us.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God who loves me and who has done so much in and for me, and I have seen what You have done through me as well - and I am deeply grateful for all of this. I am undeserving for what You have done and continue to do for me - I worry way too much and lash out at others.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
