John 13
During John's account of the Last Supper, Jesus washes the disciples feet and emphasizes the importance of putting others ahead of yourself. This point is counter-intuitive. A worldly interpretation would focus on self-needs aren't getting met if we put others above ourselves. Yet Jesus' words here must be read together with Matthew 22:37:40 regarding the greatest commandments. If we love God first, then we will see how God takes care of all our needs - He provides.
My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are a great God and I love You - You provide for all of my needs. Than You Jesus. I am not deserving of such care and love. I worry. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. v15-17
