Hebrews 6
If we are to endure and persevere in this life (see post yesterday), we need encouragement - for some of us this is particularly difficult this time of year. Writing to us on "the certainty of God’s promise", the author of Hebrews writes of "two unchangeable things" that give us this certainty we should have in Christ. God first makes a promise to Abraham (and to us - note also that God makes many promises to us), then He makes an oath. John Piper refers to this as "double security".
We DO "have this this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure".
My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You give me hope and GREAT encouragement! Thank You Jesus! I am not deserving of such love. I worry and I have other sin. Please forgive me Jesus and help me turn from and overcome such sin and turn towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. v18-19
