Luke 9
This time, the account of Jesus feeding the five thousand in all of the Synoptic Gospels (see Matthew 14 and Mark 6) plus in the Book of John (John 6). Of note today is how two of the accounts in Matthew and Mark make note of how Jesus felt "compassion" for those following Him. Even though He was likely tired and/or perhaps feeling like He would rather focus on Himself (I know I feel like this on long or rough days) versus on others.
Jesus never said no to an opportunity to serve.
We have to remember that Jesus tells us to love God and others - these are the most important commandments. It's implied that we are to love ourselves less (self-esteem is a separate issue/question) - see post from DesiringGod.com here.
In fact the Bible tells us to deny oneself.
My Prayer: Lord Jesus what a great God You are - You are always available whenever I call and You never refuse to hear and answer my cries. It may not always be the answer I seek but You are always there - thank You Jesus! I am undeserving of such a God...I daily miss the mark. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Matthew 14:14/So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. Mark 6:32-34
