Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

1 John 2

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. v15

The world is full of amazing creations: creation itself, material things, people, etc.  The admonition is that we are not to idolize anything.  We can enjoy the world but not idolize...this is a critical distinction.  Avoid anything that takes the place of God.

John continues:
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. v16-17

John echoes what God provides the Israelites from the Ten Commandments:

You shall have no other gods before me.

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. Exodus 20:3-4

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are a great God full of love and compassion for me.  Thank You Jesus.  I am not worth such love and compassion.  I use my words inappropriately.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome such sin and turn towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You do. Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal her of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
