 Isaiah 42

[A] bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench[.] Isaiah 42:3a,b

This morning, I pause my study of 1,2,3 John using the Christ-Centered Exposition commentary series volume for these books to use DesiringGod.com's Solid Joys daily devotional, which today offers words of encouragement to those experiencing challenges and feeling as though their faith in God is weak, and in John Piper's terms a mere spark versus that of a flame.  We all desire for our hearts to burn with desire for God and for our faith to be strong but there are times when we feel weakened.  Piper encourages us to seek God and avoid falling prey to the temptations offered by this world.  Scripture of course offers a mountain of encouragement.  I think of John 16:33, and Piper refers us to Luke 4:18, Malachi 4:2, Matthew 11:29, Psalm 27:14. If you are feeling low and weak, go to the Lord!

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God whose everlasting arms give rest when we are weakened.  You heal and You guide...and so much more - thank You for never leaving or forsaking me.  I am not deserving of such blessings. My sin is great and it continues...daily.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
