He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.

Luke 13-20

Day 309 of my chronological study of the Bible with The Daily Bible® - In Chronological Order (NIV®) (available by purchase through Amazon - author F. LaGard Smith) continues as I move further into the New Testament - this morning focusing on what my commentary* refers to as the Perean Ministry. My commentary indicates that "[d]uring this period of his ministry Jesus once again teaches through numerous parables. His parables cover a wide range of subjects, including the cost of discipleship, the value of lost souls, the rejection of his kingdom, the need for humility, and the unrighteousness of hypocritical religion."  The book of Luke is the exclusive focus this morning.

More than anything, I am reminded of the importance of humility.  Humility is a critical component of one's faith and faith does not exist without humility.

Other key verses from the reading this morning that emphasize humility:

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Luke 14:11

In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. Luke 14:33

Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it. Luke 17:33

We MUST remember that we exist not for ourselves but for the glory of God.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an incredible God who loves me and who has blessed me beyond what I deserve.  Thank You Jesus! But again, I am not deserving.  My sin continues...and will stay with me until I am home with You.  Please forgive me for my worry and other sins.  Help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
