Abram: Give and Take - A Real Relationship with God

Today's reading
Genesis chps 12-15

I am struck by how Abram is blessed greatly and I am also struck at the developing relationship between Abram and God. And how this is a model for how we can have real relationships with God.

From Gen 15:1-6
1 After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision:
"Do not be afraid, Abram.
I am your shield,
your very great reward. "

2 But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3 And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir."

4 Then the word of the LORD came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir." 5 He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

6 Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Clearly there is reverence for the Lord but there is also doubt. And instead of internalizing this doubt, Abram voices it and develops a "give and take" relationship with the Lord - not that Abram gives anything to the Lord or that the Lord needs anything from Abram. God does not mind if we talk to Him, if we doubt Him, if we question Him - bottom line, He wants a relationship with us.

My Prayer: Lord, please help me love you with all of my heart and come to you with anything, whether it is a question, a doubt, or anger. I don't want to hide anything from you. I love you. Amen.
