Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.

Exodus 20

Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning. v20

In Exodus 19, God appeared to Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai:

On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently. As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him. Exodus 19:16-19

In Exodus 20:18, the Israelites told Moses of their fear and Moses responded in v20.  We should fear God - He is in control, He knows everything, and He is all powerful.  At the same time, He loves us, is full of compassion, and patience, etc.; He knows what is good for us and He has a great plan for us.

These are just a few of the attributes of God - that He is with us and He is perfect.  He is with us because He loves us and He wants us to enjoy His blessings - and He knows that for us to enjoy His blessings we must abstain from sin and be holy (because He is holy).

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God, full of love and compassion for me.  And You are with me - always - thank You Jesus!  I am not worth such love as I am often harsh with others.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome such sin and turn towards You instead.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You do.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
