I paused once again on my studies of both Isaiah and Proverbs to listen to DesiringGod.com's Solid Joys daily devotional, which focuses on battling discouragement. John Piper uses several Psalms as examples to show how "[t]he Bible is replete with instances of saints struggling with sunken spirits" and how we can draw on the Bible as they did to battle discouragement. Piper provides the following examples from Psalms: 73:26, 19:7, and 23:2-3.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God who loves me and who is full of love, compassion and grace for me - and You encourage me. Thank You Jesus! I am not deserving of how You love me and how You encourage me. My sin is great - anxiety - and it continues, as well as other sin...daily. Please forgive me Jesus - help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
