Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not backward.

Isaiah 47-50

Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not backward. Isaiah 50:4-5

I continued my deep dive of Isaiah, based on the Precept Upon Precept study series - today moving on to Lesson 18 day 5, which focuses on Isaiah 50. My commentary shares the following divisions for this chapter:

  1. A nation (Israel) who refused to listen is sent into exile (v1-3)
  2. A servant (Christ) who perfectly listened is sent as savior (v4-9)
  3. A key question: will you listen to the Servant or to yourself (v10-11)

The commentary highlights how "every morning the Father would waken the Son and pour words of instruction into his ready ear. The New Testament gives ample evidence of how this was worked out in Jesus’s life. Mark 1:35 tells us of Jesus’s habit of getting up very early in the morning and going to a deserted place where he would pray." We, as believers, are called to imitate (through faith and how faith brings about obedience) Christ, and as a result just as He modeled daily prayer and quiet time, we must do the same.

My Prayer: Jesus, You are an awesome God and only You can save and redeem - thank You Jesus for my salvation!  The greatest gift of all time!  I am not deserving of such a gift.  My sin is great and it continues...daily.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
