Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.

Luke 20

Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely. v46-47

At this point in Jesus' ministry, He is becoming more sharp in His descriptions of the Jewish leaders seeking to trap and arrest Him (see v20-44).  The description in v46-47 applies not just to the Jewish leaders but to us as well because Jesus is talking about pride and we all deal with pride issues.

We must be humble.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are a great and awesome God and for me and all of Your children, You humbled Yourself becoming like us in every way then You went to the cross for us - dying a gruesome death...for us.  Thank You Jesus - I am in of awe of You and I love You.  Yet I am undeserving for what You did and what You continue to do for me daily.  I daily miss the mark...with my harsh words and actions towards others.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
