You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.

Daniel is gifted by God with an ability to interpret dreams and he is called in to do so for Belteshazzar, who now rules after the death of his father Nebuchadnezzar.  What is striking here is that Daniel rejects the gifts bestowed to him by Belteshazzar.  It is not clear whether this was done previously (see Daniel 2:48), but this is consistent with other behavior by Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who all strive to serve and obey God above all.

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God who loves me and who blesses me beyond what I deserve – showering me with gifts every day and pouring out Your love and grace and me.  Thank You Jesus!  I am not worth such love.  I worry.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
