This morning, until I start a new Bible study, I continue using devotionals from John Piper. Today, the post focuses on what another of Piper's posts refers to as "perhaps the most staggering promise in the Bible." This promise is made to believers, who, "in spite of every threatening pain and luring, sinful pleasure", overcome as described in 1 John 5:4. Ephesians 1:22-23 is key here, as described by Piper, as "Jesus fills the universe with his own glorious rule through us." Piper wants us to "feel...this as we should" and encourages us to seek the Holy Spirit's assistance so that "the eyes of [our] hearts [are] enlightened." We are urged to seek such assistance so we can begin to see that "[t]he strange and radical commands of the New Testament [are] not...as strange as they once seemed."
Staggering promise indeed!

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your promises are indeed incredible and this one is staggering indeed - and You are faithful! Thank You Jesus for Your promises and Your faithfulness. I am not deserving of such promises and faithfulness. My sin is great and it is daily. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
