David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.

2 Samuel 5

David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. v4-5

I believe patterns in the bible are important because God wants us to see connections.  In this case, we see David as similar to Jesus in that David reigned over Israel and Judah as long as Jesus lived.  See also blog post here (and there are others).  God wants us to see David's life as important and worthy of study.  Of course, David is not perfect (and we aren't either).  Yet even with David's faults we can study his life as someone with humble beginnings and as someone with a heart for God, and as someone who trusted and had confidence in God.

God has a plan for us just as He did for David.

God, please help me rest in You, and to have trust and confidence in You.

My Prayer:  Lord Jesus, You are an amazing God who has provided Your Word and the Holy Spirit so that I can walk with You and spend time with You.  Thank You Jesus.  I am not worth such love because I am harsh - with my own family!  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome my sin and turn towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You do.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
