I continue my study of Hebrews, assisted by the commentary Christ Centered Exposition: Exalting Jesus in Hebrews. My focus this morning is on initial observations of Hebrews 2:10-18. This text builds on previous text (see post yesterday) in Hebrews where it establishes that the Last Adam accomplished what the first Adam did not. It describes how "it is fitting" (v10) that God came into the world as flesh and blood, partaking of the same things all of humanity experiences, including temptation, pain, suffering, and ultimately death - for a purpose: redemption and salvation of humanity.
[T]hrough death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Hebrews 2:14-17.
It is not just fitting but amazing - amazing grace!

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are a great, amazing God and I am grateful for the amazing grace You have already poured out for me and for the mercies that are new every morning...thank You Jesus! I am not deserving of such grace and mercy. My sin is great and it continues...daily. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
