For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

John 1

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. John 1:16

As I continue to ponder what to study next, my Bible study this morning once again leans on DesiringGod.com's Solid Joys daily devotion, which today looks at John 1:16 and how John Piper wants us, as he is, to ponder and enjoy the fullness of Jesus Christ.  To help us experience what he experienced when he delved deeper into what comprises this fullness, Piper uses scripture from John 1 more broadly and provides several attributes of this fullness:

  • as this fullness is from God, it is a divine fullness (vv1-2)
  • as the "Word became flesh, and so was one of us, and was pursuing us with his fullness — it is an accessible fullness" (v14)
  • it is a glorious fullness as when the Word appeared in human form, His glory was seen (v14)
  • this fullness was from God's only Son as means to deliver God's fullness (v14)
  • it is a fullness of grace and we are blessed in every way by this fullness (vv14, 16)
  • it is a fullness of truth, rooted in rock solid reality (v14)
Experience the joy of Christ by understanding the fullness of Christ!

My Prayer: God, You are an awesome God who loves me and who gives me Your fullness through Your only Son Jesus Christ!  Thank You!  I am not deserving of the joy You give me.  Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You.  Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me.  Help me grow in my faith.  Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength.  Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo.  Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior.  Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin.  Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others.  Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
