Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:9-11
As I continue my vacation in Maine, I maintain a pause on my studies of both Isaiah and
Proverbs, and tonight and throughout my vacation I will use DesiringGod.com's Solid Joys daily devotionals - today's focuses on how Jesus Christ, through the gospel and His death on the cross, became both the price and the prize for our salvation. John Piper walks us through the sequence as the value of the act increases (using much more or more than that as qualifiers):
- We are saved from the wrath of God as Jesus took the penalty of sins for all humanity
- We are saved by His life
- We rejoice in God
Piper describes how our rejoicing in God as the ultimate end of the gospel, that we experience "[t]he highest, fullest, deepest, sweetest good of the gospel...[-] God himself, enjoyed by his redeemed people."
Rejoice in the gospel and in being part of His kingdom!

My Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are an awesome God who saved me from God's wrath and saved my life - for eternity! Thank You Jesus - I am not deserving of such a gift - my sin is great and it is daily. Please forgive me Jesus and help me overcome and turn from my sin towards You. Help me love You with all of my heart, soul, and mind and love others as You love me. Help me grow in my faith. Give Lisa and myself wisdom and strength. Please heal Lisa of her cancer and from the side effects of chemo. Help us lead Zach and Dustin to You Jesus and for them to choose You as their Lord and Savior. Please provide Godly friends and spouses to Zach and Dustin. Help me serve You, my family, my church, and others. Help me understand, be obedient to, and apply Your message for me today and every day.
